  Welcome to the wonderful village of Sarteneja. Sarteneja village is located in the Corozal district neighboring Progresso village. It is a beautiful village where many people love to spend their vacations and spend time with their family and enjoy the nice refreshing breeze and water. Sarteneja village is like a small town itself because it has everything you need and want: gift shops, grocery stores, clinic, parks, hotels, restaurants etc. Sarteneja Village is also a place that is well known for fishing and swimming, It is a place filled with tourists attraction like the Shipstern Butterfly reserve which covers approximately 22,000 acres and is owned and managed by International Tropical Conservation Foundation(I.T.C.F).
History of Sarteneja
The village of Sarteneja was 1500 years ago, It was a business cross road for the Mayas. In 1854, Mexican war refugees migrated and settled on the land and they named it TZATEN-A-HA, but eventually modified into Sarteneja. TZATEN-A-HA, the Mayan word has been interpreted in various ways: “give me water” or “water between rocks”. Visitors that visit Sarteneja Can discover and enjoy the fishing tradition mentioned before and relax.
